As You Serve our Country!

Happy Presidents Day to those of you from the USA!

Today I have a card I created for my son in law, who is in the US Navy. He left for a 9 month deployment this past weekend. Nine months is a long time. My daughter is quite proud of her sailor, but she is also heart broken over the separation they are facing. They've only been married a little over a year. The sacrifices made by our military families is really hitting home for us.

My card features the Navy Seal and of course I had to use red, white and blue!

I started with a white card base and sponged real red ink around the edges. Next I cut three panels in red, white and blue CS. The blue panel was stamped with the interlocking star background in VersaMark ink. The red panel was stamped with the Mini Ribbon in VersaMark ink. The white panel was stamped with just the firework part of the Freedom Cannon image in real red ink and sponged with Versafine Majestic Blue ink. The Navy Seal was stamped in the same blue ink, die cut and layered on a scalloped red circle. The sentiment was also stamped in the blue ink and cut with a nestie banner die. Some tiny red star brads were added after sponging real red ink around the edges.

This card will be on its way to my son in law soon.

I've been wanting to try something and this week's Merry Monday Challenge #96 to use holly gave me the opportunity I was looking for. DRS Designs has some stained glass stamps and today I printed off a holly image on the computer and then stamped the Oval Stained Glass image over it and colored it with my Copic Markers. I really like the look.

After coloring the holly with Copics, I fussy cut it and added some red rhinestones for the berries. The lighter green square was die cut with nesties and the sentiment was stamped in black ink. The holly is attached with some pop dots. The card base is dark green CS with a real red panel that was embossed with a CB herringbone folder. The holly ribbon completes the look.

Thanks for stopping by today.

Until next time,
shelia

  1. Thank you for your tribute. I am ex Navy and it is always appreciated. I was in Cuba during the Cuban crisis on a destroyer protecting the USS Enterprise. VERY nice card.
